(Dec. 6) – The Texas Minority Counsel Program honored three attorneys at its 24th annual awards event in November.

Cisselon Nichols Hurd, senior legal counsel of Shell Oil Company in Houston, received the TMCP Corporate Counsel of the Year Award. The TMCP Committee selects an attorney for this award who has done the most to open doors for Texas minority, women and LGBT attorneys by promoting diversity within her department and by consistently hiring minority, women and LGBT attorneys in private practice.

Fred Gaona, member at Gray Reed & McGraw in Dallas, was given the TMCP Trailblazer Outside Counsel of the Year Award. The TMCP Committee presents this award to the attorney who has done the most to effectuate the promotion of diversity within the legal profession through the hiring, retention and mentoring of diverse attorneys.

Linda Bray Chanow, executive director of the Center for Women in Law at the University of Texas School of Law in Austin, received the TMCP Lifetime Achievement Award. The TMCP Committee chooses an attorney for this award who has demonstrated extraordinary support and advocacy for the advancement of diverse attorneys throughout her legal career.
