(Feb. 20) – Dallas-based litigation and intellectual property boutique Carter Scholer recently announced the addition of Scott Breedlove as a partner.
Breedlove, who was at Vinson & Elkins for more than 20 years, said he needed a different platform as patent litigation has evolved over the past few years.
“A smaller firm platform provides more opportunities,” he said. “A more flexible rate structure is more doable.”
He also emphasized that he is excited about the opportunity to work with Leon Carter.
“It is always a good sign when a pretty typical response from people when I tell them about my move is ‘Oh, I love Leon,’” he said.
Breedlove, like many patent litigators in Texas, is paying close attention to what the U.S. Supreme Court decides in the TC Heartland venue case.
“It could be the end of the Eastern District’s rocket docket,” he said.
Breedlove anticipates that patent cases will begin to be more evenly distributed across districts where technology business is done.
One area Breedlove is developing expertise in is data privacy and cybersecurity. Prior to lateraling to Carter Scholer, he was chairing a V&E task force looking at these issues.
