(April 27) – Bracewell & Giuliani announced this week the addition of litigation partner Sean Gorman to its Houston office.
Gorman says he enjoyed his time at the “highly acclaimed” AZA law firm in Houston, but Bracewell offered him a unique opportunity to be a part of the firm’s litigation team leadership.
“Friends from Bracewell called me earlier this year, and I liked what I saw,” he said. “The firm has a great reputation for trying commercial cases.”
A University of Houston Law Center graduate, Gorman represents clients based in the U.S., Europe, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East in a variety of sectors.
He recently defeated a $6.4 billion claim against ENI S.p.A., the Italy-based energy supermajor, for the value of an oil and gas concession off the coast of West Africa. In another case, he obtained the dismissal of a claim against MuellerChen Co., a Houston-based investment bank, arising from BP’s sale of its oil and gas assets in Pakistan to a China-based energy company.
In a matter involving three Houston-based companies, he helped protect the rights of a joint venture between Seismic Exchange, Inc. and Geophysical Pursuit, Inc. to grant third-party licenses to Global Geophysical Services, Inc.’s seismic data library.
Gorman says he is seeing more energy related disputes that are being pursued now that the price of oil has decreased.
“E&P companies are being more aggressive protecting existing revenue streams,” he said.
In addition to his private practice, Gorman serves on the board of directors of Texas Appleseed and participates in a variety of pro bono activities that support its mission.
