(Sept. 9) – Vinson & Elkins partner Tom Wilson, head of the firm’s labor, employment and OSHA practice, has been elected chairman of a committee focused on international human rights, the firm recently announced.
The newly-created committee falls under the International Section of the State Bar of Texas. It will study and recommend guidance concerning legal and ethical issues that attorneys and international businesses face when possible human rights violations are discovered.
One of the first tasks of the committee is to review the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct and recommend amendments aimed at clarifying an attorney’s ethical obligations when human rights violations arise.
The committee also plans to provide training and educational programs related to issues faced by lawyers practicing in the international arena.
