Buc-ee’s, CenterPoint, Precision Drilling, Peak Completion, LyondellBasell & Superior Energy Win Big at 2019 Houston Corporate Counsel Awards

The Association of Corporate Counsel’s Houston Chapter and The Texas Lawbook announced Thursday night that Buc-ee’s Deputy General Counsel Tracy Richardson is the winner of the official 2019 Houston Corporate Counsel Awards’ Business Litigation of the Year.

CenterPoint Energy Associate General Counsel Monica Karuturi and her outside lawyers at Akin Gump and Baker Botts are the winners of the M&A Transaction of the Year.

More than 300 leaders of Houston corporate legal departments and the most prominent business lawyers in Texas celebrated the annual Houston Corporate Counsel awards Thursday evening at the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Houston.

The Texas Lawbook and the Houston Chapter of the ACC, which co-hosted the event, announced the following winners: 

General Counsel of the Year for a Small Legal Department is Peak Completion Technologies GC Timothy Johnson;

General Counsel of the Year for a Midsized Legal Department is Precision Drilling GC Veronica Foley;

General Counsel of the Year for a Large Legal Department is Halliburton GC Robb Voyles; 

Senior Counsel of the Year for a Large Legal Department is LyondellBasell Associate General Counsel Andrew Gratz; 

Senior Counsel of the Year for a Midsized Legal Department is Blaine Edwards of Superior Energy; 

Senior Counsel of the Year for a Small Legal Department is Amber Shushan of PetroChina; 

Rookie of the Year Award goes to Amelia Xu of Tidewater Inc.; 

Creative Partnership Award winner is Carriage Services Senior Counsel Mike Elliott and his outside counsel Shook, Hardy & Bacon;

Public Service/Pro Bono Award goes to U.S. Zinc Corp. General Counsel Richard Rosenberg; and

Diversity of the Year Award winner is Shell Oil and the co-chairs of its company’s diversity and inclusion initiative Belinda Senneway and Matthew Coward.

During the ceremony, ACC Houston and The Lawbook also celebrated the careers of two highly respected corporate counsel and elder statesmen in the Houston legal community:

·      Total E&P USA Associate General Counsel David Houck, and 

·      Recently retired Plains All-American GC Lawrence Dreyfuss. 

Both Houck and Dreyfuss are legendary in-house lawyers who were honored with the 2019 Houston Corporate Counsel Lifetime Achievement Award.
