Tony Mauro Award goes to Haynes and Boone’s Laura Prather

November 6, 2019 Mark Curriden

The Texas Lawbook has a policy against publicizing awards from other media outlets, but we are making a major exception today.

The American Lawyer has announced the creation of the Tony Mauro Media Lawyer Award and a lawyer from Texas is its first honoree.

The national legal publication created the Tony Mauro Award this year to honor lawyers who zealously advocate for freedom of the press and a more open government.

Mauro is a legendary journalist who covered the U.S. Supreme Court for four decades.

The first recipient of the Tony Mauro Award is Haynes and Boone partner Laura Prather of Austin. Prather represents numerous news media outlets in pursuing more access to government meetings and documents through advocacy in the Texas courts and legislature.

The Texas Lawbook congratulates American Lawyer for creating this wonderful award, Tony Mauro for a great career as a reporter and Prather for her extraordinary advocacy for free speech and a free press.
