Food Law Expert Lauren Medoff Moves from AdvoCare to 7-Eleven

October 30, 2020 Brooks Igo

Dallas lawyer Lauren Medoff has left her post this month as assistant general counsel at AdvoCare to join the 7-Eleven legal department as senior counsel.

Medoff was at the Plano-based dietary supplement company for almost nine years. She said the 7-Eleven opportunity “feels like the perfect next step” for her career.

“I have heard for years that 7-Eleven has the most talented team of attorneys in DFW,” she said. “Over the last year, I met a number of them and it became my goal to be a part of that.”

At 7-Eleven, Medoff joins an 18-lawyer legal department. She will be responsible for various regulatory matters and review of labeling and marketing materials from 7-Eleven’s private label as well as beverages, dietary supplements, over the counter medicines and other consumer product goods. Medoff also expects to support the company’s fresh food business and healthy food initiatives.

“Lauren is a highly skilled, well respected lawyer,” Tom Dollar, director of regulatory affairs at AdvoCare, said on Medoff’s LinkedIn page. “She’s very dedicated to and focused on her work, displaying expertise in numerous areas including food labeling/law, litigation, FDA and FTC regulations for foods & dietary supplements, contracts, product claims, social media and advertising. Lauren will be a great asset in any company.”

Suzie Trigg, co-chair of Haynes and Boone’s Food, Beverage and Restaurant Practice Group, has worked closely with Medoff. She says Medoff is uniquely qualified in food law.

“There is no better lawyer than Lauren to help with the challenges that inventive companies like 7-Eleven face as they work to delight and nourish consumers,” Trigg said. “After obtaining her LLM, Lauren spent several years building well-rounded experience, including on hot topics like influencer marketing, and representing her prior company within leading industry organizations, such as the Council for Responsible Nutrition.”

Medoff, who is the second vice president of the Association of Corporate Counsel’s DFW chapter, said being involved in the sports marketing world at AdvoCare was a unique experience. A big time sports fan, Medoff said two of her highlights were driving a golf cart for VIPs at the AdvoCare 500 and hosting a business dinner for five NFL starting quarterbacks.

“I had to pinch myself sometimes that I was able to be a part of this fantastic company and represent them in some unique situations for an attorney,” Medoff said.
