(April 16) – Akerman has continued its string of lateral moves in Texas with the addition of insurance litigation partner Matt Schroeder in Dallas.
A Gardere lifer, Schroeder is the third partner and sixth attorney to leave Gardere, which recently merged with Foley & Lardner, for Akerman this year – in February, a team of international trade lawyers led by Michelle Schulz and Elsa Manzanares joined Akerman’s 30-lawyer Dallas office.
“When Gardere announced they were looking at a merger, it gave me chance to look at other opportunities,” said Schroeder, who had a connection to Akerman’s chief operating officer. “[Akerman] is a good fit for me personally and for my clients with its national insurance coverage litigation practice.”
Schroeder, who has special expertise involving coverage issues related to environmental risk policies, pointed specifically to Akerman’s expertise in that area and presence in New York, Los Angeles and D.C. as key factors.
Schroeder also advises insurance companies on commercial general liability to workers compensation, construction defect and reinsurance and pursues subrogation recoveries.
