(May 21) – Tulsa, Okla.-based Laredo Petroleum Holdings, Inc. announced Tuesday that is has agreed to sell all of its interests in properties and assets in the Anadarko Basin to various affiliates of Houston-based EnerVest, Ltd. for $438 million.
Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld is representing Laredo in the transaction, with Houston partners Chris LaFollette and Tom Weir and New York partner Mark Zvonkovic as the lead attorneys. Also assisting in the deal are Houston associates Christopher Centrich and David Bartz and New York counsel Alexandra Reuss.
“It was an interesting deal, as it reflects the exciting times in the oil patch for buyers and sellers to have a ‘win-win’ situation,” said LaFollette, who is partner-in-charge of Akin Gump’s Houston office.
The firm has represented Laredo in the past, including when the company announced its $298 million initial public offering in December 2011.
EnerVest stayed in-house for its legal team – more specifically EnerVest General Counsel Fabené Welch. Before joining EnerVest in February 2008, Welch was a partner in the energy section of Haynes and Boone’s Houston office.
The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of this year.
