Baker Botts became the first Texas-based law firm to announce year-end bonuses to associates.
The Houston-based firm, in a Dec. 2 memo by Baker Botts managing partner John Martin, said associates hired out of law school in 2021 will get a $20,000 bonus this holiday. The scale accelerates up to $115,000 bonuses for seven- and eight-year associates hired in 2015 and before.

“To be eligible for these bonuses, full-time associates and counsel must (a) be in good standing and actively employed at the firm on the date of payment; and (b) meet or exceed firm client billable and bonus-eligible hours targets for the bonus calculation period (December 1, 2021 through November 30, 2022), subject to applicable firm policies,” Martin wrote in the Baker Botts memo.
