(March 30) – Baker Botts recently announced that energy regulatory expert Andrea Stover has joined the firm’s Austin office as a partner in its global projects practice.
Stover, who was previously at Austin-based Graves Dougherty, says she was intrigued when she was approached by Baker Botts after having had the opportunity to work with a group of their lawyers on a Houston import project representing CenterPoint Energy.
“Their energy practice is world-renowned,” she said. “It is an elevated platform for me to grow my practice.”
The University of Texas School of Law graduate focuses her practice on representing energy, water, and other clients in regulated industries and matters before administrative agencies, the State Office of Administrative Hearings (SOAH), and state and federal courts.
“Andrea is well-known and highly respected among Texas energy regulatory agencies and her arrival will complement our practice before the Public Utility Commission of Texas, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and in the Texas courts,” Jason Bennett, co-chair of the firm’s global projects group and a partner in the Houston office, said in the announcement.
Stover says the key issues she is paying attention to are efforts by the Texas legislature to address how ERCOT utilities can recover costs in a more timely matter and better deal with regulatory lag, transmission buildout and upgrading the grid and addressing the need to bring wind energy in the Texas Panhandle across the state.
