A bank has filed a lawsuit in Dallas County against former Dallas Cowboys player Roy Lee Williams in relation to an alleged debt the NFL star owes for money he borrowed to purchase a house in University Park.
The petition, filed Friday, says Branch and Banking Trust Company agreed to loan $2.1 million to Williams in 2006 to purchase the house through a promissory note. Williams also executed a deed of trust, granting the bank a secured interest in the property.
The lawsuit claims that Williams defaulted on his obligation to the bank under the note and the deed of trust by failing to pay the balance due under the note upon maturity, which was set for Oct. 25, 2009.
In November 2009, BB&T (which is a successor in interest to Colonial Bank) approved Williams to sell the house for an amount less than the balance due under the note. Williams still owes the bank $372,417.89 plus accrued interest of $214, 877.27, the complaint says.
Jennifer Owen of Higier Allen & Lautin in Addison is representing BB&T in the case. She declined to comment on the lawsuit.
