CDT Roundup: 13 Deals, 16 Firms, 201 Lawyers, $11B

Civitas Resources announced a whopper of a deal this past week, entering the Permian Basin for the first time by acquiring assets from NGP-based Hibernia Energy and Tap Rock Resources for $4.7 billion (see below).

The company is a recidivist acquirer, first consolidating in the DJ Basin as Bonanza Creek Energy and later as Civitas after Bonanza combined with Extraction Oil & Gas in 2021. That same year, the company added a second acquisition, Crestone Peak Resources, another leading energy producer in the region backed by Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board.
