(April 13) – A group of AT&T lawyers spearheaded the telecom giant’s $1.6 billion acquisition of Straight Path Communications that was announced earlier this week.
AT&T General Counsel David McAtee led the in-house deal team, along with Assistant General Counsel John O’Connor, who is also based in Dallas. AT&T attorneys based in Atlanta and Washington, D.C. were also involved.
McAtee hired Kilpatrick Townsend as AT&T’s outside counsel for the deal. All lawyers on the deal team are based in Kilpatrick Townsend’s Atlanta office.
A group of New York and Washington D.C. lawyers from Weil, Gotshal & Manges led Straight Path’s end of the negotiations, but the Weil deal team included Dallas tax associate William Dong.
The all-stock transaction ramps up AT&T’s access to 5G technologies, the newest speed in the Internet world. Straight Path is one of the largest holders of 28 GHz and 39 GHz millimeter wave spectrum.
Evercore served as Straight Path’s financial advisor.
