Masters Champ and Golf’s World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler’s Legal Lineage in Texas

As Scottie Scheffler tapped in the final putt to complete his commanding victory at the Masters, two of Dallas’ legal community waited off the 18th green to celebrate with him.

Scheffler, the Highland Park High School alum who grew up playing at Royal Oaks Country Club, is the son of former Thompson & Knight Chief Operating Officer Diane Scheffler and son-in-law of Dallas litigator Mark Scudder, who was a longtime partner at Strasburger and is now at Quilling, Selander, Lownds, Winslett & Moser. Scheffler and Scudder’s daughter Meredith married in 2020.

Scudder told The Texas Lawbook it was a “real blessing for all of our family to be there for such a special moment for Scottie and Meredith.

“I am so proud of Scottie for his golf accomplishments, including now being a Masters champion. However, as a father-in-law, I am even prouder that he is a Godly young man who has a relationship with Jesus Christ and loves and adores Meredith. The rest of the world is finally getting an insight into the type of person Scottie is and that he is so much more than a world-class golfer.”

Asked if he has ever somehow bested Scheffler in a round of golf, Scudder replied, “No, not even close.

“The last time I played with Scottie we were joined by my son and future son-in-law,” he added. “When we finished and added our scores, Scottie shot a 63. Needless to say, he easily won. It is a lot of fun to play with Scottie as you realize just how talented and special he is on the golf course.”
