(April 29) – Andrews Kurth announced Monday it strengthened its litigation practice in Dallas by adding veteran trial lawyer Robert Hoffman as a partner.

Hoffman says Gardere, where he practiced for the last 16 years, is an “amazing” firm, but he saw new opportunities at Andrews Kurth.

“I consider Andrews Kurth to be one of the top firms in Texas,” he said. “They have an expanded platform in the number of lawyers and number of offices that will blend nicely with my client base.”

A year and a half ago, Hoffman successfully defended one of the nation’s largest insurance carriers in a seven-week trial in which the plaintiffs sought $200 million. The jury issued a take-nothing verdict.
Hoffman says it was the largest bad faith insurance coverage case to go to trial in Texas in two decades. The case is currently on appeal.

The SMU Dedman School of Law graduate is currently representing a franchise in the hotel industry in a consumer class action case in Los Angeles.

The biggest issue facing large litigation cases, according to Hoffman, is e-discovery and the costs associated with it.

“Between courts, clients and lawyers, we have to find a better solution,” he said.

In addition to his private practice, Hoffman has served as the general counsel of the General Counsel Forum for the past 14 years. He is also on the advisory board of BBVA Compass Bank Dallas and the head of the governance committee of Darkness to Light, a national nonprofit whose mission is to end child sex abuse.
