DISH DBS Corporation, DISH Wireless and 16 affiliated companies filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Tuesday in the Southern District of Texas.
The Colorado-based businesses, which are divisions of Echostar Corp., hired White & Case as its lead legal advisors in a prepackaged bankruptcy that cited $10 billion to $50 billion in liabilities but only $1 billion to $10 billion in assets.
The White & Case legal team advising DISH DBS include Houston partner Charles Koster and Chicago partners Matthew E. Linder and Laura E. Baccash.
According to Bloomberg Law, the prepackaged restructuring agreement allows DISH DBS to repay $1.6 billion in debt earlier than planned. It could also clear the path for a future M&A transaction.
The bankruptcy has been assigned to Houston Bankruptcy Judge Christopher Lopez.
The case is In re DISH DBS and Dish Wireless, Case No. 26-90627 in SDTX.
