(June 13) – A nine-lawyer group from Kane Russell Coleman & Logan recently announced it has launched its own firm – Johnston Pratt PLLC – focusing on commercial litigation in the financial services industry.

The new firm, led by named partners Kenneth Johnston and David Pratt, includes five partners, one counsel and three associates.

David Clem, one of the partners, says it is a “self-sustaining group” with a “good spread” of lawyers.

“The major impetus [for starting the firm] was business conflicts and a desire to grow our reputation and business,” Clem said.

Clem says his team possesses significant expertise in litigation involving multi-lender credits, which often include “lots of finger pointing and cross-fire.”

The firm is representing Regions Bank as a plaintiff in a case set to go to trial in August at the 101st Civil District Court in Dallas. Clem says the total loan value at stake in the litigation is $66 million.

Earlier this year, Clem and Johnston zeroed out a $7.4 million breach-of-contract case for BB&T against Plano-based LNV Corp, a subsidiary of Beal Bank. The two partners are currently handling the case on appeal.

Clem added that “one of the real ambitions” is to make the firm a great place to work. He says the firm is looking to attract the “best and brightest” by creating a flexible environment through adopting new technology to work remotely and utilizing cloud management services.

The complete Johnston Pratt team includes:

– Partners Kenneth Johnston, David Pratt, David Clem, George Barber and Robert Gifford

– Counsel Kate Gaither

– Associates Daniel Klein, Sean Affleck and Amelia Coates.
