Four Clark Hill Strasburger Healthcare Attorneys in Austin Move to Winstead

February 13, 2020 Brooks Igo

Winstead added a team of four Austin healthcare attorneys from Clark Hill on Thursday.

The group is led by shareholders Kevin Wood and Corinne Smith and includes associate Marshall Meringola and of counsel Michael Smith. All four advise healthcare providers on transactional matters.

“The combination of Winstead’s healthcare real estate, healthcare M&A and healthcare finance experience with our healthcare regulatory, operational and transaction practice results in an unparalleled service offering to healthcare providers in Texas and across the country,” Smith said in a statement.

Prior to going to law school, Smith worked on the business side for healthcare providers INTEGRIS Health, Trinity Rehab and Baptist Health System. After graduating from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 2003, Smith worked at Brin & Brin and eventually landed two in-house positions in the industry – as chief of strategic partnerships and legal counsel for UT Health Science Center at San Antonio and then as director of legal services for Seton Healthcare Family.

In addition to advising healthcare providers on business arrangements, Wood aids clients on federal and state anti-kickback laws and data privacy issues.

Winstead’s announcement comes two weeks after five environmental lawyers in Austin departed the firm for McGinnis Lochridge.
