(April 27) – The Dallas Independent School District (DISD) selected Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP as the winner of its 2015 Superintendent’s Award in recognition of the Annual Gardere MLK Jr. Oratory Competition.

DISD Superintendent Mike Miles presented the award to the firm at the board of trustees meeting on April 23. The Superintendent’s Award is given annually to an individual, business or group that has given outstanding support on a district-wide basis.

“Gardere is grateful to have the opportunity to partner with Dallas ISD to provide this unique forum for students to not only enrich their presentation skills, but also to celebrate equality and diversity in our communities,” Holland O’Neil, chair of Gardere, said in a statement. “We are honored to receive the prestigious Superintendent’s Award, and we are thankful for all of the Gardere lawyers and staff, as well as the Dallas ISD staff, who volunteer their time to make the competition possible.”

Gardere has partnered with DISD to sponsor the oratory competition since 1993. Fourth- and fifth-grade students are invited to present three-to five-minute speeches addressing a topic designed to help them learn more about Dr. King’s impact on civil rights.
