The Austin Bar Association honored Gardere partner Fred Sultan with the Outstanding Director Award for the 2012-2013 bar year at the group’s Annual Board Reception.
The award recognizes Sultan’s leadership in advocating for diversity in the legal profession, according to a press release. Sultan is a member of the Austin Bar’s diversity committee and co-founder and inaugural director of the Austin LGBT Bar Association.
As director, Sultan, a graduate of The University of Texas School of Law, educates people on issues relating to LGBT law and works to raise acceptance of LGBT individuals within the legal community. Under his leadership, LGBT data was collected for the first time in conjunction with the Austin Law Firm Diversity Report Card.
Sultan focuses his practice at Gardere on commercial litigation involving business torts, breach of contract, breach of warranty, employment, trade secrets, construction disputes, probate law, real property claims and securities matters.
