Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher announced this week that tax expert Greg Nelson, who chaired the Houston office of Paul Hastings for the past 11 years, has joined the firm as senior counsel.
Nelson’s federal income tax practice focuses on the energy sector. He counsels clients regarding tax issues related to private equity transactions and publicly traded partnerships.
Hillary Holmes, co-head of Gibson Dunn’s Houston office and co-chair of its capital markets practice, overlapped with Nelson at Baker Botts, where Nelson practiced for three decades. She posted on LinkedIn that “Greg’s deep tax expertise, particularly in the energy industry, will be of immense value to our clients. Greg has a solid reputation for true excellence and professionalism. It’s a joy to work with him again.”
Last year, Nelson was on the deal team that advised renewable energy company Spearmint Energy in its acquisition of a battery energy storage project from Con Edison Development.
The addition of Nelson follows Gibson Dunn’s hiring of corporate partner Rahul Vashi from Kirkland & Ellis in May.
