By L.M. Sixel of the Houston Chronicle
HOUSTON (March 1) – Kansas City-based Polsinelli announced Tuesday that it is setting up shop in Houston with an emphasis on intellectual property law.
Polsinelli, a full-service firm with nearly 800 lawyers with a heavy focus on healthcare law, hired 44 lawyers from Novak Druce, a Houston-based boutique firm that focused on the legal protection of inventions, artistic works and other creative efforts.
The firm opened in Dallas in 2011 and has grown the office to nearly 50 lawyers.
Polsinelli chairman Russ Welsh said the firm plans to add lawyers that specialize in health care, financial services, business litigation, real estate lending and transactions.
“Houston is a very active legal market,” said Welsh, who added that the firm has been planning to open an office here for the past two or three years.
It is following the same strategy as it has in other cities by focusing on one core area – intellectual property in Houston, heath care in Nashville and business litigation in Atlanta – and then building other practice areas important to the local market, Welsh said.
