(Feb. 27) – Willkie Farr & Gallagher announced Tuesday that energy private equity pro Steven Torello has joined the firm’s Houston office as a partner.

Torello lateraled over from DLA Piper, where he helped launch the firm’s Houston office in Spring 2008. He primarily represents energy-focused private equity funds forming platform companies focused on building upstream, oilfield service and midstream businesses.

“We’ve chased Steve for three years for good reason: He is among the small group of lawyers who have dedicated their practices to complex transactions involving energy funds and their upstream, oilfield service and midstream portfolio companies,” Bruce Herzog, partner in charge of Willkie’s Houston office, said in a statement.

Herzog added that Torello’s expertise and skills “directly squares with our core strategy of serving as long-term advisors to energy and buyout fund principals, portfolio companies and management teams.”

In December, Torello represented Pine Brook Partners-backed Forge Energy in a $946 million asset sale to Oasis Petroleum.
