Houston Finance Partner Hired by Clifford Chance

June 22, 2026 Elle Grinnell

Carter L. Olson, a finance partner, has joined Clifford Chance in Houston from Vinson & Elkins. He will focus his practice on secured and unsecured finance matters, representing borrowers, lenders, private equity companies in complex debt financings and derivatives transactions, according to a news release.

Before joining Clifford Chance, Olson practiced at Vinson & Elkins for almost 12 years, advising clients on private credit, syndicated lending and structured finance matters. His experience includes project finance, reserve-based lending, asset-based revolving credit facilities and other secured and unsecured financings across the maritime, oilfield services, upstream and midstream oil and gas, renewable energy and power generation sectors.

Lee Askenazi, co-head of Clifford Chance’s financial markets team in the Americas, said Olson has a proven track record in sophisticated, novel financing transactions.

“Carter’s experience across derivatives and structured finance further strengthens our ability to deliver innovative structures and solutions in response to increasing client demand across the private credit market.” Askenazi said in a statement.

In early May, Clifford Chance announced the addition of two other partners in the Houston office, as J. Laurens Wilkes became global head of infrastructure disputes and Caitlin Gernert joined the firm.

Alexandra Wilde was named Houston office managing partner in March, as the British white-shoe firm continues investing in America’s fourth-largest city.
