Houston Finance Partner Moves from Kirkland to McGuireWoods

July 22, 2026 Elle Grinnell

Michelle Williamson, a finance partner, has joined McGuireWoods in Houston from Kirkland & Ellis. She will focus her practice on financing transactions for energy and infrastructure clients, representing sponsors, borrowers, financial institutions and investors in acquisitions financings, investment-grade lending and other debt financing matters, according to a news release.

Before joining McGuireWoods, Williamson spent nine years at Kirkland & Ellis in Houston, where she advanced from associate to partner. She represented sponsors, private and public borrowers, financial institutions and investors in a broad range of financing transactions.

“Michelle’s experience financing transactions in energy, infrastructure and other industries will complement a host of corporate areas in Houston and around the country,” said Gerald V. Thomas II, deputy managing partner of the firm’s corporate practice.

McGuireWoods recorded $99 million in Texas revenue last year, a 9.3 percent increase from 2024, and reported a headcount of 77 lawyers, an increase of 2.7 percent, according to the Lawbook 50.

AREAS OF FOCUS
Williamson represents sponsors, borrowers, financial institutions and investors in financing transactions involving the energy and infrastructure sectors. Her practice includes acquisition financing, investment-grade lending, cash flow and asset-based lending, including reserve-based lending and securitizations for oil and gas transactions, as well as mezzanine financings, private credit and subordinated debt financings.
