The State Bar of Texas awarded its highest pro bono honor, The W. Frank Newton Award, to Hunton Andrews Kurth’s Dallas office last week.
The award – named for the former Texas Tech University School of Law dean and long-time pro bono advocate – recognizes the pro bono contribution of attorney groups whose members have made an outstanding contribution of legal services to the poor.
The Dallas office of HuntonAK donated more than 4,000 hours of pro bono service in fiscal year 2019, according to an announcement from the firm. HuntonAK attorneys have handled matters for the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program, Catholic Charities, the National Veterans Legal Services Program, the Housing Crisis Center, Texas C-Bar, Dallas Bar Association Legal Line and Human Rights First.
“We are humbly gratified to receive this recognition on behalf of our firm. It is emblematic of our office’s collective spirit of employing our skills to help ensure the availability of quality legal services to those in need,” Dan Garner, a partner at HuntonAK, said.
“It thrills me that our lawyers, paralegals and staff professionals, who have given selflessly to make a difference for our pro bono clients and partner agencies, can know that their work is recognized by our State Bar at this high level.”
The Newton Award is the second honor HuntonAK’s Dallas office has received in the past year. In September, the firm was named DVAP’s Law Firm of the Year.
