(April 27) – Jackson Walker recently announced that media law expert Paul Watler has been appointed to the University of Texas Moody College of Communication Advisory Council, an alumni and professional organization that counsels Moody College on how to best prepare the college’s students for a career in communications.
Watler, who received both his law and bachelor degrees at the University of Texas, will officially join the council on May 1.
A former award-winning journalist, Watler has spent much of his career representing Texas newspapers, broadcasters and journalists in trial and appeals of First Amendment, libel, privacy and freedom-of-information suits. His clients have been recognized with the Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting and the Columbia-Du Pont Gold Baton for news reporting projects.
Watler is a past president of the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas and has been elected to serve as a member of the board of directors of the Texas Association of Broadcasters and North Texas Public Broadcasting (KERA).
