(Sept. 22) – Texas Governor Greg Abbott appointed former appellate and trial judge and Jackson Walker partner Kent Sullivan as the state’s new Commissioner of Insurance.
A graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, Sullivan served as a state district judge in Houston from 2003 to 2006. In 2006, he took over as the number two lawyer for the state AG’s office, where he developed a Medicaid fraud prosecution unit that is known as one of the most aggressive in the U.S.
In 2008, then-Gov. Rick Perry appointed Sullivan to the Court of Appeals.
Since, 2010, he has represented businesses and executives in various litigation and regulatory matters before the state’s appellate courts. He was a partner at Sutherland Asbill – now called Eversheds Sutherland – before joining Jackson Walker in November 2015.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed the years spent practicing at Jackson Walker,” Sullivan said in a written statement. “It’s been exciting to be a part of such a fast growing and well-respected firm. I look forward to beginning the next chapter and serving the people of Texas.”
Jackson Walker managing partner Wade Cooper said that Sullivan “brought a new dimension to Jackson Walker’s litigation and appellate groups.”
