(April 28) – More than a dozen national law firms have opened offices in Houston during the past five years.
Kirkland & Ellis finally added its name to the list.
Founded in Chicago, Kirkland announced its entrance into Space City with the lateral hire of corporate law partner Andrew Calder, who has been a lawyer in the Houston office of the New York-based firm Simpson Thacher.
Kirkland also announced that Benjamin Clinger, one of its corporate partners based in Chicago, and Rhett Van Syoc, a corporate associate, are relocating to Houston.
Calder has represented major private equity firms Blackstone Energy Partners and KKR in a handful of multibillion-dollar transactions. He also has advised GeoSouthern Eagle Ford Development and Petrohawk Energy in major deals.
Kirkland has more than 1,600 lawyers in 12 cities globally.
