(Nov. 29) – Houston-based Legge, Farrow, Kimmitt, McGrath & Brown announced Tuesday that the 17-lawyer litigation boutique is merging its operations with Holman Fenwick Willan, a 450-lawyer full service law firm headquartered in London.
With the merger, HFW opens its first outpost in the U.S. The 123-year-old law firm has offices in Asia, Australia, Europe, North Africa and South America.
Legge Farrow and HFW have worked together on projects that involve mutual clients, including Chevron-Texaco, ExxonMobil, Hapag-Lloyd and Cotemar. Other Legge Farrow clients include ConocoPhillips, King Ranch, Noble Drilling, Pioneer Natural Resources, Schlumberger and Swift Energy.
HFW officials said in a written statement that Houston is an important market for its clients in the energy, marine and aviation sectors.
“Houston represents a major business hub for us,” said HFW Global Senior Partner Richard Crump. “Having an on-the-ground U.S. office has been a goal for some time and this merger will bring us closer to our existing clients in the region, and enable us to develop more business in our key sectors of oil and gas, marine and aviation, which are key growth sectors in the region, as well as building out our sector capability.”
Legge Farrow founding partner Glenn Legge said the two law firms are “very similar in terms of culture and providing pragmatic, cost effective services.”
“We both value the importance of in-depth sector knowledge,” Legge said.
