Mayer Brown Adds Houston Energy Partner from King & Spalding

December 11, 2019 Brooks Igo

Houston oil and gas partner Vera de Gyarfas has jumped from King & Spalding to Mayer Brown, the firm recently announced.

Gyarfas, who worked for nine years at K&S, focuses her practice on upstream exploration and production, LNG and other natural gas projects under host government agreements, including production sharing agreements, concessions/licenses and operating services agreements.

“The oil and gas sector continues to be of strategic importance to the firm, and Vera’s experience in transactional energy matters will deepen our capabilities in many areas that are fundamental to our clients’ needs in Houston and around the world,” Neil Wasserstrom, managing partner of Mayer Brown’s Houston office, said in a statement.

Alex Cequer, the head of Mayer Brown’s oil and gas group, praised Gyarfas’ “extensive experience” involving energy projects in Latin America and Africa. Gyarfas is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

“My goal is to further enhance my oil and gas practice, specifically in upstream, midstream, and LNG projects in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Angola and Mozambique, which are all very active markets for energy infrastructure,“ Gyarfas said in a statement. “Mayer Brown’s international platform will enable this growth.”
