Zach Mayer is leaning into his alma mater’s tagline, “From here, it’s possible,” with his firm’s latest expansion.
As hot as the Texas legal market has been for going on 15 years, firm leaders from around the globe haven’t looked to the home of Buddy Holly, Red Raiders, and haboobs for boots on the ground.
But Mayer sees opportunity, announcing on LinkedIn this week the launch of a Lubbock office, the firm’s fifth outpost in Texas.
“This one is especially meaningful to me,” Mayer wrote on LinkedIn. “West Texas and Texas Tech played a big role in my life and career, so seeing Mayer open our newest Texas office in Lubbock is a particularly special milestone.”
In an interview with The Texas Lawbook, Mayer said there is a need for an established firm in West Texas. The office is opening with four lawyers, a legal assistant, and a paralegal, with experience in oil and gas litigation and appellate. One of the lawyers, Campbell Roper, is a former assistant general counsel for Texas Tech.
Mayer said he expects the blueprint for growing the office to follow how they opened in San Antonio two years ago, where they started with one lawyer and now have 15.
The Dallas-based firm is now at 170 lawyers firmwide and climbed to No. 25 in the Texas Lawbook 50 headcount rankings. Mayer LLP also has offices in Fort Smith and Fayetteville in Arkansas, and Albuquerque, New Mexico.
