Veteran Dallas trial lawyer Alan Loewinsohn has joined McKool Smith, the firm announced Monday.
Loewinsohn moves to the 120-lawyer Dallas-based litigation firm after more than three decades of leading his own boutique, which is continuing on as Deary Ray LLP.
“I have long-standing ties with Mike McKool and others at McKool Smith and have always admired the firm they’ve built,” Loewinsohn told The Texas Lawbook. “I also felt this was a good point in my career to start a new chapter – I can now offer clients, both plaintiffs and defendants, a more national platform with very brilliant trial lawyers.
“The talented trial lawyers at my previous firm will continue their practices and we look forward to collaborating in the future on various trial matters. I am grateful for my time there and am lucky to call many of them my close friends.”
McKool Smith managing principal David Sochia called Loewinsohn a “wonderful addition” and an “amazing asset to our clients” in the firm’s press release.
Loewinsohn’s commercial litigation practice has encompassed construction and real estate, securities, sports, oil and gas, contracts, partnerships, intellectual property and product liability matters. In 2017 he obtained a multibillion dollar verdict, which at the time was the largest in Texas probate court history, on behalf of his client against J.P. Morgan Chase.
Moving to McKool Smith with Loewinsohn are principal Kerry Schonwald and associate Jennifer Barall.
Loewinsohn’s history with McKool dates back to the beginning of his law career. After graduating law school from the University of Virginia in 1979, Loewinsohn practiced for five years at Hewett Johnson Swanson and Barbee, where McKool was a partner.
