Mergermarket: V&E, White & Case, Latham Handle Biggest Value M&A Deals in TX

October 29, 2018 Mark Curriden

Vinson & Elkins ranked second in total mergers and acquisitions deal count involving Texas businesses during the first nine months of 2018, but the Houston-based firm is No. 1 for the combined value of the transactions it handled.

However, new M&A data from financial research firm Mergermarket provided exclusively to The Texas Lawbook shows that the next 10 law firms ranked by deal value are all headquartered outside of Texas. In fact, four of the top 10 law firms do not even have an office in the state.

V&E worked on 51 M&A transactions during the first three quarters of 2018 valued at $104.1 billion, according to Mergermarket. The firm was second in overall deal count. Kirkland & Ellis was No. 1 with 72 transactions.

White & Case, a New York firm that opened its first Texas office earlier this year, ranked third in combined M&A value. Latham & Watkins, a Los Angeles-founded firm, came in fifth.

Four other Texas-based law firms made the top 30 for total deal value, including Akin Gump, Baker Botts, Bracewell and Locke Lord.

The Texas Lawbook will publish the rankings for financial advisors later this week.
