Shearman & Sterling kicked off May by announcing a bankruptcy partner addition in Texas.
Luckey McDowell has practiced for the past 17 years at Baker Botts in Dallas. Although Shearman lists McDowell as being based in Houston on its website, the New York law firm has been rumored to be eyeing a Dallas office. U
McDowell was involved in the Chapter 11 reorganization of GenOn Energy, counseling its parent company NRG Energy in the restructuring of its wholly-owned subsidiaries with approximately $4 billion of debt. GenOn emerged from bankruptcy in late 2018.
The Duke School of Law graduate also served as debtor’s counsel to Houston-based Hercules Offshore in the offshore contract drilling and liftboat services company’s prepackaged Chapter 11 bankruptcy case.
On the creditor’s side, McDowell represented the MLB Players Association in connection with the bankruptcy case of the Texas Rangers baseball team.
Shearman leaders say McDowell will also support the firm’s corporate and private equity practices.
Since opening Austin and Houston offices in 2018, Shearman has built its Texas presence to more than 50 lawyers, including 17 partners.
