(May 24) – The South Texas College of Law in Houston recently announced the appointment of five new board members for the 2016-2017 academic year.
Donald J. Guter, president and dean of South Texas College of Law, said in a statement that Judge Robert Eckels, Randy Howry, Joseph Lopez, Andrew Sommerman and Ruthie Nelson White “each bring a wealth of knowledge and legal expertise to our board of directors, in addition to a commitment to our students and an enthusiasm to further the mission of our distinguished 93-year-old institution.”
Eckels, a former Harris County judge and presiding officer of the Harris County Toll Road Authority, is of counsel at Gray, Reed & McGraw, where he specializes in corporate and election law.
Howry is a named partner at Austin trial law firm Howry, Breen & Herman. He received the Distinguished Alumni Award from South Texas College of Law in 2009.
Lopez is a shareholder and board member of Banker Lopez Gassler PA, a Florida law firm. He focuses his practice on personal injury and property damage litigation.
Sommerman is a named partner at Dallas law firm Sommerman & Quesada. He specializes in catastrophic injuries, wrongful death and defective products personal injury matters.
White is the managing principal of Jackson Lewis’ Houston office, where she focuses her practice on employment litigation and workplace training.
