(Nov. 19) – Strasburger & Price recently announced it boosted its corporate practice in Houston and real estate practice in Austin with the addition of two new partners.

Debra Gatison Hatter, formerly of Haynes and Boone, represents private equity funds, public companies and privately-held businesses on corporate transactions. Former Bracewell & Giuliani partner Jeff Bates focuses his practice on the sale, acquisition, disposition, leasing, financing and development of office, retail, industrial and energy facilities.

Both new Strasburger partners emphasized the firm’s Texas presence as a reason they wanted to join.

“Strasburger is a regional firm with a collegial culture and a strong foothold in the middle market as well as the Fortune 100,” said Hatter, who is the co-founder and former chair of the mergers and acquisitions section of the Houston Bar Association.

In June, Hatter represented Houston-based EV Energy Partners LP in its $575 million divestiture of its joint venture interest in Utica East Ohio Midstream LLC.

She says she is seeing an increasing number of investors and buyers in the energy sector interested in making a deal. Outside of the energy industry, she says deal flow is steady, particularly in health care.

Bates, who will be based in Austin, frequently works on real estate deals in Houston and San Antonio as well. He says Strasburger offers him the best opportunity to grow his practice and serve his clients.

“They are looking to grow their transactional real estate practice in Texas and I want to be a part of that growth,” he said.

The University of Texas School of Law graduate recently represented Hearst Corp. in the sale of the Houston Chronicle building to Houston-based development company Hines.
