(Sept. 18) – Baker & McKenzie announced this week that the Tahirih Justice Center has named it the Houston Firm of the Year.

The firm will be formally recognized at the Tahirih Justice Center’s Fourth Annual Houston Gala on Sept. 26 at The Houstonian Hotel.

The Tahirih Justice Center’s Pro Bono Network is made up of more than 1,800 attorneys from 450 law firms who are committed to helping immigrant women and girls flee extreme violence.

“We are so proud of our partnership with Tahirih,” Louis Davis, who is the Houston Pro Bono Committee Co-Chair, said in a statement. “Our firm has a deep respect for the courage and perseverance of survivors of violence. Their determination to break generational cycles of abuse and build a better world for themselves and their children is nothing short of awe-inspiring.”

Last year, Baker & McKenzie co-sponsored a U visa clinic in Tahirih’s Houston offices. This year, the firm said more than 20 lawyers from the firm devoted hundreds of pro bono hours to help survivors of gender-based violence.
