Texas Lawbook 50: 11 Firms Rise to Elite Status

July 17, 2024 Mark Curriden

Eleven corporate law firms operating in Texas reached elite financial status in 2023.

Texas Lawbook 50 data shows that three Texas-based law firms and eight national law firms reported at least $3 million in profits per partner and $1.4 million or more in revenue per lawyer in their Texas operations last year.

Houston-headquartered firms Susman Godfrey and Vinson & Elkins and Dallas-founded Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld each topped $1.5 million in RPL in 2023. Susman Godfrey, a litigation boutique, recorded PPP of $6.99 million and RPL of $3.6 million — a truly astonishing year.

Three Chicago-founded corporate law firms, two Los Angeles-founded firms, two New York-headquartered firms and one Atlanta-founded firm made the elite list.

Kirkland & Ellis hit $7.95 million in profits per partner and nearly $2.1 million for RPL, according to Lawbook 50 data.

Simpson Thacher and Gibson Dunn joined Kirkland and Susman Godfrey as firms that recorded revenue per lawyer of $1.8 million or more and PPP of $5 million or more.
