Vartabedian Katz Hester & Haynes Adds Three More Employment Lawyers from DLA Piper

March 3, 2026 Brooks Igo

Three more employment lawyers from DLA Piper have officially joined Vartabedian Katz Hester & Haynes two weeks after the firm made a splash by bringing on Marc Katz as a name partner.

Reuniting with former colleagues Katz and Todd Mobley this week are partner Micala Bernardo and senior associates Maria Garrett and Breegan Mayrant.

“As indicated when making my move just a few weeks ago, we intend to add talent and a significant amount of work from new and existing clients in the area of management-side labor and employment work,” Katz, who was the chair of DLA Piper’s national employment practice, said in a statement.

“We’re very pleased that this group is now able to join us, and I’m confident they will also find this to be a great place with opportunities to offer practical and timely solutions to our clients’ needs.”

Bernardo represents employers in a wide variety of employment litigation matters, including cases involving breach of contract and fiduciary duty claims, claims of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, and employee mobility claims. She also proactively works with employers in efforts to improve workplace policies and avoid litigation.

“I am thrilled to announce that I have accepted a position at Vartabedian Katz Hester & Haynes,” Bernardo said in a post on LinkedIn. “Twelve years ago I started working with Marc Katz at Andrews Kurth in a part-time, non-partnership role, and I have been blessed every day since to get to work with and learn from him. I am thrilled to be joining Marc Karz and Todd Mobley and the rest of the team on this new adventure!”
