Winston & Strawn Adds Former Baker Botts Partner to Its IP Roster

May 27, 2026 Alexa Shrake

Morgan Mayne has joined Winston & Strawn’s litigation and intellectual property practice from Baker Botts, where she spent the first 12 years of her career.

“What brought me here is the collaborative culture, the strong trial reputation and brand, and the energy and enthusiasm of everyone I met with,” Mayne told The Texas Lawbook.

She said that she is looking forward to working with Kathi Vidal, who also specializes in IP.

“I would say these reasons, along with Winston’s continued investment and growing the Texas IP litigation practice, made me feel like Winston would be a place where I could truly excel and develop into a first chair litigator,” Mayne said.

Mayne specializes in intellectual property disputes, using her electrical engineering background to represent a variety of clients in technical industries, including telecommunications, video streaming, semiconductors, consumer electronics and network security.

“Morgan is a skilled litigator whose experience in case strategy, team leadership, and client relations, paired with her technical background, will add tremendous value to the Dallas office,” Co-Managing Partner, Dallas and Litigation Department Co-Chair Brett Johnson said in a news release. “We are excited for her to join the team.”

Coming back from the long Memorial Day weekend, Mayne’s first day with the firm was Tuesday.

“Adding Morgan to the firm marks an important step in the continued growth of our Intellectual Property Practice,” Litigation Department Co-Chair Linda Coberly said in a news release. “Her significant experience handling complex patent litigation further expands our ability to serve clients in high-stakes patent matters.”

Mayne earned her Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the University of Kansas in 2010 and her law degree from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in 2013.
