(April 29) – Those who know Ken Stewart say he is one of the truly nice guys in the legal profession. On Wednesday, Norton Rose Fulbright seized upon the reputation of the Dallas corporate lawyer by naming him its global chairman – a position the law firm describes as an ambassadorial leadership role.
Stewart was the chairman at Fulbright & Jaworski two years ago when the Houston-based firm combined with Norton Rose, creating the international giant legal practice that now boasts 3,800 lawyers worldwide.
In an interview with The Texas Lawbook, Stewart said the new position requires “a fair bit of travel” to Europe and Canada.
Norton Rose Fulbright Global Chief Executive Peter Martyr said Stewart will assume the role May 1 and will focus on fostering the global practice’s cross-border collaboration and growing client relationships.
“The appointment of Ken Stewart to the role of global chair for Norton Rose Fulbright demonstrates the importance of the U.S. to the development of our global business,” he said. “Ken’s knowledge and extensive experience of working within the U.S. markets and beyond will be invaluable as we look to grow our practice across the continent.”
Stewart said he is “honored to be the first U.S. partner” be serve in the role. He said the combination of Fulbright and Norton Rose is “going fantastically.”
“To the extent there have been surprises, they have been good ones,” he said.
Stewart said that if he knew two years ago what he knows now, “I would do it again.”
