(Feb. 17) – Weil, Gotshal & Manges announced this morning that Dallas litigator Paul Genender has joined the firm as a partner.
Genender laterals to Weil from K&L Gates. He said he wasn’t looking to leave his prior firm, where he had practiced for nearly 14 years, but Weil offered the chance to expand his practice and better serve his clients.
“It is a unique opportunity at this point in my career to work with a premiere law firm and grow my practice beyond litigation into antitrust,” Genender said. “The opportunity to work with Ray Guy [head of Weil’s litigation practice in Dallas] makes this more attractive.”
He added that it was important to him to join a firm with a strong corporate M&A and private equity practice for his clients.
The Duke University School of Law graduate has represented clients on business matters involving antitrust, real estate, breach of contract, business fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, deceptive trade practice, unfair competition, securities fraud, misappropriation, theft of trade secrets and complex software litigation.
Genender has recently been involved in a number of cases in the energy space concerning the valuation of departing employees’ closely-held stock. He says he expects to see more and more of these cases driven in large part by the energy market.
The new Weil partner said he is also seeing more disputes involving major commercial real estate developments that have gone awry.
