(Aug. 26) – Vinson & Elkins further solidified its energy mergers and acquisitions practice with the recent addition of Bryan Loocke as a partner in Houston.
Loocke, who lands at V&E from Bracewell & Giuliani, will advise corporate and private equity clients in the energy sector. He says V&E’s platform and the opportunity to work on deals for more private equity firms and publicly-traded companies attracted him to join its ranks.
“V&E provides opportunities to grow my practice and do different kinds of deals,” he said.
The University of Texas School of Law graduate has developed a focus on unconventional and shale oil and gas, Gulf of Mexico and joint venture transactions. He recently advised Noble Energy in its multi-billion dollar acquisition of Rosetta Resources. The deal, which is expected to close in the third quarter, was one of the first big mergers of the year in the oil and gas upstream sector.
Loocke says the commodity price uncertainty is an ongoing concern for his clients.
“The downturn might be longer than in 2008 when the hedges run out,” he said. “We will see a greater deal velocity as a result.”
