Former U.S. Congressman John Culberson has joined Clark Hill Strasburger’s government and public affairs practice as a member. He will office in Washington, D.C. and Houston.
Culberson, a Republican, represented Texas’ 7th congressional district, which covers parts of West Houston and surrounding Harris County, from 2001 to 2019. He was upset in November by Democrat Lizzie Pannill Fletcher, who was a partner at the Houston litigation boutique AZA.
“John is an exceptional asset for both our federal and state governmental practices,” Betsy Kamin, member-in-charge of Clark Hill’s Houston office, said in a statement. “His longstanding connections in Austin and D.C. will provide an avenue for the voices of our clients to be heard on public policy issues that are important to their businesses.”
Culberson launched his political career in 1987 in the Texas House of Representatives while attending law school at South Texas College of Law. In 1999, Culberson served as minority whip in his last term in the Texas House.
During his nearly 20-year career in the U.S. House of Representatives, Culberson was a member of the House Appropriations Committee, where he chaired its Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies and its Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs. He was also an active member of the Subcommittees on Homeland Security and Transportation, Housing, Urban Development, and Related Agencies.
