December 11, 2019 Brooks Igo

Veteran litigator and civic leader David R. McAtee has left Hunton Andrews Kurth for the Dallas litigation firm Hedrick Kring.

McAtee, the father of AT&T General Counsel David R. McAtee II, has joined the 12-lawyer firm as of counsel. He focuses his practice on defending the accounting profession, including for the “Big Four,” major regional firms and individual license holders.

“David is a seasoned, veteran litigator, and we’re thrilled he’s bringing his expertise to Hedrick Kring where it will be a tremendous benefit to the clients we serve,” Joshua Hedrick said in a statement. “His experience in navigating clients through difficult and complex litigation matters is second to none.”

A 2018 recipient of the Texas Bar Foundation’s Outstanding 50 Year Lawyer Award, McAtee also handles federal and state antitrust matters, insurance coverage litigation, disputes related to tender offers, lender liability claims, multi-district and class action litigation, and securities litigation.

Prior to his nearly five-year tenure at HuntonAK, McAtee was a partner at Akin Gump, where he chaired the firm’s litigation practice group and served on its executive committee.

After receiving his law degree from the University of Texas, McAtee clerked for the Honorable Jack Pope at the Texas Supreme Court.

In addition to his law practice, McAtee has held numerous high profile leadership positions in the community. He is a past chairman of the board of directors of Dallas Area Rapid Transit and past vice chairman of the Dallas City Planning Commission. He is also a past chair of the Texas Bar Foundation.
