ACC Houston & The Texas Lawbook 2019 Corporate Counsel Awards: One Day Left for Nominations

February 27, 2019 Mark Curriden

Law firms, corporate legal departments and others have only one day left to submit nominations for the 2019 Houston Corporate Counsel Awards.

There are 15 categories, including General Counsel of the Year, Senior Counsel of the Year, Business Litigation and Corporate Transaction of the Year.  The awards event is set for Thursday, April 25, at the Four Seasons Hotel.

Click here to make nominations, which are due by Feb. 28.

The purpose of the Houston Corporate Counsel Awards is to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary legal work and leadership of lawyers in corporate legal departments in South Texas. The Lawbook plans to publish in-depth, substantive profiles of the finalists.

“ACC members in the Houston area are deeply involved in some of the most critical business decisions in the corporate community, but the stories of our members are seldom told or recognized,” says ACC Houston President Jessica Roper. “The Texas Lawbook is the ideal media partner for ACC because its writers understand our role and it gives us a much needed voice to the rest of the Texas legal and business communities. We are excited about this partnership and what it means for our members.”

ACC Houston and The Lawbook have 15 award categories in this inaugural year.

Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes a current or retired General Counsel or Assistant GC for their decades-long commitment to the legal profession and the corporate in-house counsel community.

Transaction of the Year honors a corporate legal department and its outside counsel for successfully guiding a company through a complex merger, acquisition, project or joint venture.

Senior In-House Counsel of the Year, (Large, Medium & Small/Solo Departments) recognizes individual in-house senior counsel (not GCs or CLOs) for successes they achieved through their individual efforts and engagements.

Community & Public Service celebrates an individual corporate in-house counsel for her or his commitment and service to the community, pro bono and public service.

Legal Innovation (Individual and Corporate Legal Department) honors an individual corporate counsel and their legal department for game-changing, creative approaches to legal services.

Creative Partnership praises corporate legal departments and one of their outside law firms for original and unique ways they work together in the delivery of complex and strategic legal services.

Business Litigation of the Year honors a corporate legal department and its outside counsel for extraordinary success in a complex and high stakes litigation or trial.

Rookie of the Year celebrates a young lawyer (35 years or younger) who has been in-house for five years or less and has already achieved extraordinary successes.

Corporate Legal Dept. Diversity recognizes an individual corporate in-house counsel for her or his commitment and service to diversity initiatives.

General Counsel of the Year (Large, Medium & Small/Solo Departments) honors individual General Counsel and Chief Legal Officers in their respective categories for successes they achieved through their individual efforts.

The rules for nomination are simple: the corporate counsel being nominated must reside and work in the Houston area and the work for which they are being honored must have occurred in 2018.

Anyone can make a nomination, including outside counsel, in-house colleagues, service providers or even non-lawyer officials within the business.

Insider Tip: The more information you provide in your submission about the lawyers and legal departments being nominated and the successes they’ve achieved, the more likely it is that they will be selected as finalists.
