Four-Partner Product Liability Team Jumps to King & Spalding

September 11, 2024 Brooks Igo

For the second day in a row, King & Spalding has multiple lateral partners joining the firm in Texas.

On Wednesday, the firm announced that it has added a four-lawyer Butler Snow product liability and mass tort trial team headlined by Kim Bueno and including Amy Pepke, Christopher Cowan and Tara Blake.

“This team is one of the preeminent product liability and mass tort trial teams in the country, with an impeccable reputation and the record of success in high-profile cases to back it up,” Tracie Renfroe, co-leader of the K&S Product Liability and Mass Torts practice group, said in a statement.

“We’ve worked alongside Kim and her team on many cases and know first-hand that their skills and experience will both expand and enhance our top-tier product liability practice and trial capabilities firmwide.”

Bueno is currently representing Johnson & Johnson in its baby powder litigation.

“Chris, Amy, Tara and I have always admired [King & Spalding’s] impressive portfolio of high-profile cases and victories in high-stakes product liability disputes, and the fact that we have worked closely with so many partners here and share many common clients makes the firm an ideal place for us to expand our practice,” Bueno said. “We could not be more excited about this next chapter.”

Mike Stenglein, managing partner of K&S’ Austin office, said he expects further growth into sectors beyond pharmaceuticals and medical devices, such as technology.

Bueno and Cowan are based in Austin, while Pepke and Blake work out of Houston. Pepke served as Butler Snow’s chair of the Appellate and Written Advocacy Group.
