By Brooks Igo

(July 19) – Greenberg Traurig recently announced that bankruptcy expert Karl Burrer has joined the firm as a shareholder in Houston.

Burrer is the second bankruptcy and restructuring pro from Haynes and Boone to join the firm this year – Lenard Parkins jumped to Greenberg Traurig in May.

Burrer says “it was too good an opportunity to pass up.

“I was particularly impressed with the firm’s vision for growing the Texas bankruptcy practice,” he said.

The University of Houston Law Center graduate represents corporate debtors and senior and junior secured creditors in corporate debt restructurings. He says his clients are “acutely concerned” with restructuring issues in the oil and gas space as clients try to mitigate risk or look for opportunities.

“I anticipate that market conditions will sustain the need for oil and gas restructuring and opportunities to acquire oil and gas assets in the foreseeable future,” he said.

Burrer says one of the most interesting cases he has been involved with in the past year is his representation of secured creditors of a diammonium phosphate fertilizer company. He helped resolve more than $140 million in claims against the secured creditors by both the unsecured creditors and state and federal environmental agencies.
